By now, I’m sure you’ve heard of The Lord of the Rings Franchise. The award winning movie trilogy based on Tolkien’s magnum opus has had its place in pop culture for decades now.
Today, we’ll explore how one of the main characters, Aragorn, is a great figure to look up to in terms of being masculine.
Aragorn is the descendant of a bloodline of kings that have sinned heavily, leading to the downfall of men in Middle Earth.
He struggles with coming into his needed role as the King of Gondor early on in the trilogy, but knows that he must do so in order to save the world.
One way that Aragorn displays masculinity is through his leadership. He leads the Fellowship of The Ring on their journey, and puts his life on the line to protect Frodo and The Ring. Without this leadership, scenes like the Fellowship grieving over Gandalf’s death would have been drawn out. And if it were drawn out, that means the Orcs would have caught up with them and slayed them all. Aragorn always has his groups best interest in mind.
Another masculine trait that Aragorn embodies is his kindness. Before the Battle of Helms Deep starts, Aragorn sits with a young boy who is about to go in war, giving him words of inspiration and teaching him how to swing his sword.
